[Update pneumococcal vaccination in old age]

Abstract

Vaccinations against respiratory infections are particularly important in old age due to the higher susceptibility to infection. The pneumococcal vaccination is an important part of preventive measures for children, the chronically ill and the elderly. With the PCV20 vaccine, a very effective conjugate vaccine is available, which also enables a simplified and effective vaccination strategy. Nevertheless, vaccination acceptance and the increase in vaccination rates, especially in the risk groups, still need to be improved. The Ständige Impfkommission (STIKO) publishes annually updated vaccination recommendations for all age groups.
