Applying Phage Display Technology to Obtain Specific Peptides Blocking Host-Virus Interactions

Abstract

Phage display (PhD) has been proven to be a powerful tool for studying interactions when at least one partner of the interplay is of protein or peptide nature. In this chapter, PhD was utilized to search for peptides potentially binding onto the receptor-binding domain of spike proteins (S-RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. After three rounds of PhD selection, two peptides were identified to be able to dock onto the positions critical for S-RBD functions, validating the usefulness of PhD in the studies concerning host-virus interactions.

Keywords: Host–pathogen interaction; Host–virus interaction; Phage display; SARS-CoV-2; Spike protein; Steric peptide.
