[Burnout among clinicians]
Abstract
This review presents a systemic model examining the root causes and impacts of clinician burnout on healthcare staff, patient care (quality and safety), organizations, and society, with examples from Denmark. The model highlights the need to address complex interrelations within systems rather than viewing burnout as an isolated issue. Systematic improvements are crucial and must be pursued with the same rigour as clinical agendas. Further research based on this model is needed to explore the links between burnout, care quality, and its broader consequences.
