CONTRACEPTION AND NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES. Among the neurological pathologies affecting women of childbearing age, epilepsy or multiple sclerosis or cerebral meningioma requires particular attention. The initiation or continuation of contraception in patients with epilepsy must consider potential drug interactions with some enzyme-inducing drugs used as background treatment. There is no specific contraindication for one contraceptive method versus another for the women with multiple sclerosis. Nevertheless, the use of a long-acting reversible method (LARC) should be encouraged to reduce the rate of unplanned pregnancy in these women. Finally, a meningioma contraindicates the use or continuation of all hormonal contraception.

CONTRACEPTION ET PATHOLOGIES NEUROLOGIQUES. Parmi les pathologies neurologiques touchant la femme en âge de procréer, la présence d’une épilepsie, d’une sclérose en plaques ou d’un méningiome cérébral nécessite une attention particulière en consultation de gynécologie. L’initiation ou la poursuite d’une contraception chez les patientes atteintes d’une épilepsie doit tenir compte des interactions potentielles avec certains médicaments inducteurs enzymatiques pouvant être utilisés comme traitements de fond. Il n’existe pas de contre-indication spécifique d’une méthode contraceptive par rapport à une autre chez les femmes atteintes de sclérose en plaques ; il s’agit néanmoins d’inciter à l’utilisation d’une méthode réversible de longue durée d’action pour diminuer le taux de grossesses non planifiées chez ces femmes. Enfin, l’existence d’un méningiome contre-indique formellement l’utilisation ou la poursuite d’une contraception hormonale.
