Polyneuropathies are common, can have very different clinical presentations and numerous causes. This article is intended to provide a practice-oriented overview of possible symptoms, the most important causes and a targeted, step-by-step diagnostic approach. Based on red flags, patients should be identified who urgently require a timely specialist assessment. The most important treatment approaches should be briefly explained.

Einleitung: Polyneuropathien sind häufig, können sehr unterschiedliche klinische Präsentationen und zahlreiche Ursachen haben. Dieser Artikel soll einen praxisorientierten Überblick über mögliche Symptome, wichtigste Ursachen und eine gezielte, schrittweise Diagnostik bieten. Anhand von Red Flags sollen Patienten identifiziert werden, welche zwingend eine zeitnahe Mitbeurteilung durch den Spezialisten benötigen. Die wichtigsten Behandlungsansätze sollen kurz erläutert werden. Schlüsselwörter: Polyneuropathie (PNP), Small-Fiber-Neuropathie (SFN), Mononeuritis multiplex, Polyradikuloneuropathie.
