Self-Care for Otolaryngologists

Nausheen Jamal et al. Otolaryngol Clin North Am. .

Abstract

Otolaryngologists experience significant work-related stressors, leading to high burnout rates and decreased job satisfaction. This article explores self-care strategies encompassing physical health (nutrition, rest, and exercise), mental and emotional well-being (stress management, boundary setting), and systemic solutions for improving work-life integration. Physicians who prioritize self-care not only enhance their own well-being but also provide better patient care. Institutional and systemic reforms, such as reducing clerical burdens and promoting peer support, are necessary to foster a culture of physician wellness. Recognizing self-care as a professional responsibility can transform the field, ensuring sustainable, fulfilling careers in otolaryngology.
