Barriers to successful pregnancy in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). They may have difficulties conceiving because of diminished ovarian reserve, elevated prolactin, and menstrual irregularities. Women with advanced CKD may require dialysis initiation to maintain lower blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels, though there is significant geographic variability in indications for dialysis in pregnancy and dialysis prescriptions. If kidney function declines and patient requires a transplant, pregnancy complications can still occur and careful monitoring is needed. AKI, acute kidney injury; FSH, follicle stimulating hormone; HTN, hypertension; LH, luteinizing hormone; MBD, mineral bone disease; RKF residual kidney function.
