[Multidisciplinary management of patients with menorrhagia]
Abstract
Objectives: Menorrhagia affects 20 to 50% of women of reproductive age and represents the leading cause of consultation among women aged 30 to 50years. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of multidisciplinary management of patients with menorrhagia within the dedicated day hospital (HDJ) of the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL), the first structure of this kind in France.
Methods: This is an observational, prospective cohort, single-center study including all patients with menorrhagia who were consecutively admitted to the HDJ of the Croix Rousse Hospital (HCL) from January 2022 to July 2023. The primary outcome it's the evolution of the Higham score after the HDJ.
Results: A total of 295 patients were included, of whom 138 (46.78%) responded to the follow-up questionnaire at least 3months after their visit. All patients presented with menorrhagia, with a median Higham score of 320 [220; 572]. Eighty patients (27.12%) had anemia, and 137 patients (46.44%) had iron deficiency. Among the 138 patients who responded to the questionnaire, the Higham score was significantly reduced after hospitalization at the HDJ (8 [0; 224] vs. 305 [207; 508], P<0.001).
Conclusions: This study demonstrates significant clinical and biological improvement in patients managed in this new multidisciplinary structure, along with high patient satisfaction. These findings encourage the promotion of such structures.
