Abstract

Supraventricular tachycardias (SVTs) are a common reason for A and E visits, presenting with palpitations or dizziness. Differentiating subtypes is crucial but can be challenging. Adenosine treatment is standard for atrioventricular node-dependent SVTs, but vagal manoeuvres like Valsalva or carotid sinus massage (CSM) offer effective, non-invasive options. This case report details a 66-year-old man with SVT, where CSM slowed the heart, revealing atrial flutter on ECG. This highlights CSM's diagnostic utility, safety, and practicality, emphasizing simple, cost-effective methods in emergency care.
