Fungal Infections
Abstract
Fungal infections have global distribution, and their prevalence depends upon the fungal species and the geographic location of the host. They may be superficial, requiring only topical treatment, or systemic, requiring hospitalization and treatment with parenteral antifungals, with complications being more common in immunocompromised individuals. Primary care clinicians should be knowledgeable and prepared to appropriately diagnose and treat these infections.
