The effectiveness of the Cyriax Method in the treatment of lateral elbow tendinopathy: A systematic review
Abstract
Introduction: The aim of the present systematic review was to investigate the effectiveness of the Cyriax Method (CM) in terms of pain management, functionality and strength improvement, and kinesiophobia reduction in Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy (LET).
Method: Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs) were identified by a strategic search of four databases along with reference list screening. The effectiveness of CM in patients with LET in terms of pain, function, strength and kinesiophobia was assessed. A qualitative analysis of the selected studies was conducted using the Furlan System.
Results: Six studies met the inclusion criteria. Two were rated as having low risk of bias, while four presented a high risk. Moderate evidence supports the effectiveness of CM in treating pain and kinesiophobia and improving functionality and strength, either as a standalone treatment or in combination with other interventions.
Conclusions: The Cyriax Method may be effective in the management of LET; however, current evidence is insufficient to support its superiority over other treatment modalities. Further high-quality studies are needed to determine its optimal application and long-term outcomes.
