Giant cell myocarditis in a middle-aged male: features in CMR

Jerald Garvin Lim et al. Int J Cardiovasc Imaging. 2025 Nov.

Abstract

Giant cell myocarditis (GCM) is a rare, rapidly progressive inflammatory cardiomyopathy that often presents with fulminant heart failure. We report a 52-year-old male with acute chest pain and cardiogenic shock, with cardiac MRI and biopsy confirming GCM. Early recognition and timely immunosuppressive therapy were critical to management and improving clinical outcomes.

Keywords: Cardiac MRI; Cardiogenic shock; Endomyocardial biopsy; Giant cell myocarditis; Late Gadolinium enhancement; Multiparametric mapping.
