New records and notes of hawkmoths from China (Lepidoptera, Bombycoidea)
Abstract
New discoveries and notes of the family Sphingidae Latreille, 1802 from China are reported. The rare species, Rothinjoa leucomelas Rothschild & Jordan, 1915 is reported from south Yunnan, which is a new genus record for China. Griseosphinx marchandi Cadiou, 1996, Smerinthulus baonganae Brechlin, 2016, Smerinthulus mirabilis mirabilis (Rothschild, 1894), Rhodoprasina floralis (Butler, 1876) and Dahira obliquifascia obliquifascia (Hampson, 1910) are new recorded from China. The female of Dahira klaudiae Brechlin, Melichar & Haxaire, 2006 is reported and illustrated for the first time, together with the female genitalia. New data from China are given for Amplypterus mansoni mansoni (Clark, 1924), Dahira yunnanfuana montivaga (Kernbach, 1966), Dahira yunnanfuana indicus Melichar, 2021, Dahira melichari Haxaire, 2021, Acosmeryx formosana arunachalensis Haxaire & Melichar, 2023 and Daphnusa haxairei Melichar & ez, 2014. Color photographs of adult moths (in the wild and of museum specimens) and habitats are provided, together with distribution maps and, for most taxa, monochrome photographs of the male genitalia.
