My Arthroscopic Bankart Repair Failed, Now What? Revision Treatment Options for Recurrent Instability Following Failed Anterior Arthroscopic Stabilization

Ryan T Lin et al. Instr Course Lect. 2026.

Abstract

Treatment options following a failed arthroscopic Bankart repair in a patient with recurrent instability can be very complex because of the large range of individual risk factors and surgical options available. Although instability most commonly presents in young male athletes, anterior shoulder instability is experienced throughout the entire population. It is important to discuss revision options following failure of an arthroscopic Bankart repair, incorporating risk factors for recurrent instability into the surgical decision-making process including demographic, anatomic, and surgical characteristics. A comprehensive approach to treating patients with recurrent instability should be implemented, focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of each procedure according to current literature.
