Abstract

PIP: Effects of Stederil-d, Eugynon, Lyndiol, and Noracyclin 22 on phagoc ytic activity in the reticuloendothelial system were studied in 480 female mice, 40 women, and 8 men. Mice received the medication during estrus, women took the pill regularly as for contraception; while men took it for 8 days. In mice, all 4 oral contraceptives initially depressed and then stimulated reticuloendothelial phagocytic activity; initial values were reached after 48 hours. In human beings, similar significant stimulation of phagocytosis was found in both sexes equally. Additional experimentation showed that only the estrogen component of the preparations was involved in the stimulation of reticuloendothelial phagocytosis.
