The use of an antigen-cocktail in the lymphocyte transformation test
Abstract
A mixture was composed consisting of PPD, Varidase, Trychophyton-antigen, mumps-antigen and Candida-antigen. The reactivity to each antigen was tested and the response to the cocktail was found to reflect the sum of the effects of the anamnestic response to each antigen separately with a maximum of about the PHA-responsiveness. A group of twenty-five individuals showed an anamnestic response to at least two of the components of the antigen mixture. The cocktail as described may be useful in testing the cellular anamnestic response to antigens in patients who have a very low number of lymphocytes in their peripheral blood, such as patients with immune deficiencies and thermal injuries.
