Rapid microbiological assay for 5-fluorocytosine

Abstract

A microbiological assay was developed for 5-fluorocytosine based on inhibition by the drug of the fall in pH produced by Candida albicans in a synthetic liquid culture medium. Serum and urine levels of the drug could be measured reproducibly in four hours.
