Two methods for detecting different aspects of the immune response to a xenograft in mice
Abstract
Two radiolabel assays of immunity to a xenograft in mice are described. One detects definite cell death while the other, which is more sensitive, detects both cell death and the inhibition of DNA turnover. It has been possible to demonstrate different cell populations in response to subcutaneous immunization. Complement-mediated cytotoxicity and the killing of antibody-coated target cells can be readily measured. The importance of the particular in vitro assay used and the tissue of origin of the effector cells in detecting different parameters of the immune responses is emphasized.
