The effect of parenteral iron preparations on experimental pyelonephritis
Abstract
The effect of parenteral iron preparations on experimental pyelonephritis has been investigated using animals primed by intravenous inoculation of various bacteria. Injection of small molecular weight iron complexes allowed growth of bacteria with the development of frank renal abscesses. Large molecular weight complexes, which do not pass the glomerulus, did not cause renal infection.
