Heterologous antiserum against gastric parietal cells induced by sub-microsomal gastric mucosal fraction
Abstract
Immunization of rabbits with a sub-microsomal fraction of bovine gastric (abomasum fundus) mucosa resulted in production of antibodies to gastric mucosal components, especially the parietal cell cytoplasm as shown by immunofluorescence. The response was of an autoantibody nature. Immunofluorescent staining of gastric cells was confined to the IgG fraction of the antiserum. Precipitin activity demonstrated in the serum appeared to be due to a gastrointestinal antigen distinct from the gastric parietal cell autoantigen. Complement-fixing activity was reduced by absorption with small intestine tissue and abolished only by stomach tissue absorption.
