Abstract

Phenotypic, biochemical and genetic methods are available for identifying heterogeneity in human disease. Genetic methods include studying the mode of inheritance, tests for allelism and linkage analysis. In the muscular dystrophies, genetic methods have proved particularly valuable in resolving the problem of heterogeneity.
