A double-blind study of alprazolam and lorazepam in the treatment of anxiety
Abstract
In a 4-week double-blind study of 53 psychoneurotic outpatients, alprazolam and lorazepam appeared to be equally safe and effective in relieving anxiety symptoms. The only statistically significant differences between the two treatment groups were in autonomic symptoms at week 1 and in dizziness at week 4. In both cases, the scores favored patients taking alprazolam. Drowsiness and lightheadedness were the most frequent side effects.
