Cytomegalovirus antibodies in renal transplant recipients

Abstract

The relationship between CMV infections and the development of various viral antibodies were studied in successively taken sera from 5 renal kidney recipients. In all of the cases tested the infections were connected with the development of antibodies to immediately early antigens and then specific IgM and antibodies to various CMV early antigens. The increase of antibodies measured by ELISA, CF and immunofluorescence for late CMV antigens were observed in samples taken from two patients. Based on serological findings the relation between CMV infections and quantity of blood received before transplantation was established.
