Four subfractions of amniotic fluid AFP identified by lentil lectin crossed-line affinity immunoelectrophoresis
Abstract
The subfraction of AFP was examined in 11 amniotic fluids at 43-121 days of gestation by lentil lectin crossed-line affinity immunoelectrophoresis. AFP in the amniotic fluid could be separated into four subfractions (type A, B, C, and D) according to reactivity with lentil lectin. Types A and C seem to be produced by the fetal liver, and types B and D by the yolk sac. However a part of type B may be synthesized in the fetal liver.
