Abstract

Urinary tract infection was shown to be both common and serious in the postoperative period. Among 87 patients who underwent urinary catheterization immediately before or after surgery, 28 (32%) had urinary tract infection. Urinary tract catheterization is necessary in some instances but rapid removal and routine culture of catheters is requisite.
