Cardiac tamponade caused by a central catheter is a potentially lethal and infrequent complication. Prompt diagnosis is necessary to decrease the high mortality rate. Cardiac catheterization with a Swan-Ganz catheter and echocardiography can rapidly establish the diagnosis.
