Screening for colorectal carcinoma in a rural area
Abstract
A screening project for cancer of the large bowel has been performed in a rural area. After an intensive educational program and with the help of many volunteers, 3,956 people participated in a stool guaiac determination. Five patients had a carcinoma, and five more had adenomas of the large bowel. We conclude that screening for cancer of the large bowel can be performed effectively in a rural area and that the results are gratifying.
