[Relation between the development of thrombophlebitis of the subclavian vein and the side of catheterization]
Abstract
Under study was the development of thrombophlebitis of the subclavian vein after its catheterization in 2435 patients. The complication was shown to appear in 1,5% of all the manipulations. Thrombophlebitis of the right subclavian vein was found to develop four times more often than that of the left one. It is accounted for by differences in the anatomical structure of the right and left subclavian veins.
