Massive hemorrhage from benign solitary ulcer of the rectum

C E Haycock et al. Am J Gastroenterol. 1983 Feb.

Abstract

A case of massive hemorrhage from benign nonspecific ulcer of the rectum necessitating operative intervention is reported. A 42-yr-old woman developed massive hemorrhage from a benign ulcer of the rectum. At laparotomy, a pedunculated fibroid was found to be pressing on the rectum at the site of the ulcer. After hysterectomy and double-barrel colostomy, bleeding ceased and the ulcer healed. The colostomy was closed 3 months later and the patient has remained asymptomatic for 5 yr.
