Abstract

Study of the amino acid spectrum in the blood plasma of 45 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) demonstrated marked deaminoacidemia with a tendency toward hypoaminoacidemia in all those studied. Characteristic significant changes in the chromatogram of free amino acids were detected at the stages of rapid and slow disease progression, during disease remissions and at the stage of stabilization. The disclosed disorders of the composition of free amino acids contribute to the better understanding of the disease pathogenesis and may serve as a differential-diagnostic criterion in various forms of the MS course. They also make it possible to outline rational directions in the comprehensive management of MS.
