Ultrastructural observations on the morphology of the stomach of Salmo irideus and on the localization of carbonic anhydrase during development
Abstract
In the cells of the gastric glands of Salmo irideus, the activity of carbonic anhydrase enzyme, localized at the ultrastructural level, appears in the course of development in the microvilli. In later stages, the reaction is extended to the cytoplasmatic evaginations of the intercellular spaces and to the mitochondrial crystae. The contemporary presence, in the same secreting element, of carbonic anhydrase and of secretion granules of a proteic nature points to the conclusion that these cells are of a "oxyntic-peptic" type.
