Get the venous blood too

Abstract

Although simultaneous gas analyses on arterial and central or mixed venous blood cost twice as much as on arterial blood alone, the benefits obtained, we believe, are increased by much more than twofold. The greatest benefits are those obtained from having more accurate and detailed information of pulmonary and hemodynamic function, particularly physiologic shunting in the lung and cardiac output.
