Iododerma complicating cardiovascular surgery
Abstract
A patient had cardiovascular surgery and received pericardial povidone-iodine irrigation along with extensive topical povidone-iodine. A postoperative febrile response occurred and persisted despite antibiotic therapy. Within 24 hours of the administration of oral potassium iodide, a pustular iododerma occurred. Discontinuation of oral and topical iodine resulted in defervescence of fever and resolution of the cutaneous eruption.
