Use of levamisole in recurrent aphthous stomatitis
Abstract
A review of the use of levamisole in the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis is presented. While various uncontrolled clinical trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in increasing the time between episodes and shortening the duration of the ulceration, a series of double-blind trials have given conflicting results that have not entirely confirmed the open trials. Side effects, of which dysgeusia, hyperosmia and nausea are the most frequent, and the administration of the drug are also discussed.
