Determination, source, metabolism, and functional role of renal prostaglandins
Abstract
A brief review of prostaglandin (PG) bio-chemistry of the kidney is presented. Methods of assessing renal PG synthesis are discussed and pitfalls pointed out. A role of renal PGs in renin release and water metabolism of man is shown. Experiments are described which form the basis for a hypothesis which postulates a role for renal cortical prostacyclin in renin release.
