Retroperitoneal abscess presenting as an abdominal mass in neonate

M R Sedaghatian et al. J Pediatr Surg. 1978 Oct.

Abstract

This is the first reported case of a retroperitoneal abscess in a neonate. The patient presented with a large abdominal mass at 3 wk of age. Excretory urogram followed by surgery established the diagnosis. Retroperitoneal abscesses must be considered in the differential diagnosis of abdominal masses in the new born.
