Polycystic ovarian syndrome; a retrospective study of the therapeutic effect of ovarian wedge resection after unsuccessful treatment with clomiphene citrate
Abstract
The therapeutic effect of ovarian wedge resection (OWR) was evaluated in a study of 92 patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome who did not conceive after clomiphene treatment. The frequency of ovulation was significantly higher after OWR than before (0.02 less than P less than 0.05). Postoperatively, 58 of the patients (63%) attained pregnancy one or more times, either spontaneously or after induction of ovulation. The beneficial effect of OWR on menstrual irregularities was significant (P less than 0.001).
