Abstract
PIP: 12 women 28-36 weeks pregnant, received betamethasone injections as a prophylactic treatment for infant respiratory insufficiency. The total estrogen levels in the urine and the serum estriol levels fell to 50%-60% of the initial levels, reaching a minimum on the second day after the injection. The total serum estriol levels returned to the initial levels after 18 days, the total estrogen levels in the urine after 13 days. Non-conjugated serum estriol levels returned to the initial levels after 11 days. Human placenta lactogen and oxytocinase levels were not influenced by the betamethasone treatment.
