Extracapsular cataract extraction, lens implantation and cyclodialysis

D Montgomery et al. Ophthalmic Surg. 1980 May.

Abstract

Combined extracapsular cataract extraction, lens implantation and cyclodialysis appear to have good functional results, as seen in our clinical experience with 238 cases. Glaucoma medications were eliminated in 54% of the cases with 87% reaching postoperative control of the intraocular pressure. There were no significant complications, and it appears that the combined operation is preferable to doing a glaucoma procedure and a cataract extraction at separate times with an interval in between. When a cataract extraction is indicated in a glaucomatous eye, we recommend a cyclodialysis be performed at the time of an extracapsular cataract extraction with lens implantation.
