[Bone metastases of prostatic cancer in relation to tumor size and grade of malignancy (author's transl)]
Abstract
In 153 patients with prostatic cancer total body bone scintigraphy was performed. Forty six patients showed bone metastases while there was no evidence of skeletal involvement in 101 cases. Our results show that the tendency of bone metastases increases when low differentiated type of malignancy is present: Patients with low grade malignancy (G1) showed bone metastases in 7.3%, with middle grade malignancy (G2) in 40%, and with high grade malignancy (G3) in 38.5%. We were also able to establish a correlation between tumor size and frequency of bone metastases: Patients with tumor size T1 showed bone metastase in 7.1%, with tumor size T2 in 19.3%, with tumor size T3 in 39.2%, and with tumor size T4 in 65%. Furthermore, we found that the incidence of low differentiated tumors appeared to be more common in increased tumor size. These results show the value of early detection of prostatic cancer.
