Abstract

A total of 40 patients was treated with 1.25 mg PGE2 placed in a cup which was applied to the vaginal portion of the cervix. There were 22 patients who went into labor and in 11 patients the cervix was ripened sufficiently to allow successful induction by amniotomy on the next day. Three patients were delivered by Caesarean section, late decelerations of the fetal heart rate being the main indication in one of them. In four patients the cervical cup had to be applied more than once. No side effects were observed.
