Asymptomatic microscopic hematuria

Asymptomatic microscopic hematuria

A L Golin et al. J Urol. 1980 Sep.

Abstract

Asymptomatic microscopic hematuria is a prevalent condition that requires urologic evaluation. Complete assessment must include non-urologic conditions. Of 246 patients reviewed 10 per cent were found to have a urologic neoplasm, while 12 per cent had other significant urologic lesions. However, 51 per cent of the patients had no urologic abnormality discovered and 27 per cent had insignificant urologic findings in which the relationship to microhematuria is questionable. A method of following patients with unexplained microhematuria that may clarify the implications of this disorder is proposed.
