Round window rupture
Abstract
Eight patients suffered sudden sensory neural hearing losses associated with exertion or trauma; all were found at tympanotomy to have round window membrane ruptures with leakage of perilymph. Operative findings, with audiometric, radiological and electrocohleographic results are shown. The aetiology is discussed, with particular reference to diving techniques and to the cochlear aqueduct.
