The African American experience: breaking the barriers to hospices
Abstract
The lack of understanding of the historical perspectives and cultural factors impact all aspects of hospice care for African Americans. This article addresses these areas in a broad context as well as the skills, behavior, and performance required to provide appropriate, competent, and culturally sensitive care to the terminally ill and dying African American and other culturally diverse population groups.
