Stimulation-produced analgesia

J K Wang. Mayo Clin Proc. 1976 Jan.

Abstract

Recent experimental and clinical reports have indicated that analgesia can be produced by stimulation techniques. The mechanism of stimulation-produced analgesia has been proposed to involve neurophysiologic and neurohumoral inhibitory effect at the level of the spinal cord, brain stem, thalamus, and cortex. Research in this area will improve the chance of understanding pain mechanisms and providing effective methods for pain control.
