Beyond the line of fire: the war on health in Nicaragua

Abstract

This paper describes the effects on health and access to health care of the civil war in Nicaragua, the consequent economic crisis, and the later change of government in the country. It stresses the extent to which attack on health care facilities was used as a weapon in 'low intensity' conflict and the prolonged period which will be needed for the resulting psychological stress to settle.
