Lymphoma of the gastric stump. Report of two cases and review of the literature

M Sebagh et al. J Clin Gastroenterol. 1995 Mar.

Abstract

We report two cases of primary malignant lymphoma developing in a gastric stump. The tumor was discovered 17 and 43 years, respectively, after partial gastrectomy for duodenal ulcer. Both tumors were B-cell mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphomas, one of high-grade malignancy (large cell type) and one of low-grade malignancy (small cell type). Only 13 cases of primary malignant lymphoma of the gastric stump have been reported previously. Such a low frequency makes a causal relationship between partial gastrectomy for benign lesion and the development of malignant lymphoma unlikely. However, these two cases illustrate that adenocarcinoma is not the only malignancy that can occur in a gastric stump.
