Sensitivty of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity to saturated and unsaturated fatty acids
Abstract
The effect of a number of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids on purified glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) (EC 1.1.1.49) enzyme of yeast was studied. Saturated and unsaturated fatty acids were found to be strong inhibitors of G6PDH activity, the former being noncompetitive inhibitors and the latter being competitive inhibitors.
