Abstract

The use of local anesthetic agents, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and clonidine, and the use of patient-controlled devices are among the most efficient techniques to reduce postoperative requirements in narcotics. It is likely that this practice is accompanied by a reduced risk of respiratory depression and may result sometimes in substantial improvement of the pain relief.
