Gonococcal infection of the neovagina in a male-to-female transsexual
Abstract
Background and objectives: To describe a case of asymptomatic gonococcal infection of the surgically constructed vagina of a male-to-female transsexual prostitute.
Study design: Case report.
Conclusion: Although the stratified squamous epithelium that lines the neovagina is normally resistant to infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae, this diagnosis should be considered in this population, particularly if working in the commercial sex industry.
